Pool Comp results - more accurate

Our dedicated Comp organiser, Phil, writes:

Hi All,

Please find attached more up to date pool comp results for this year. I made a few errors in calculating the previously distributed results (notably that Brian has won only one comp this year, not two).

I have only added complete details for semi final placings or better for the last few weeks - but almost up to date data is now on the website....

PT remains our leader - even on the updated numbers (and is the only multiple winner this year)!

Toxteth Hotel Pool Comp Rules

In light of some continued problems with outside players engaging in questionable play during the comp, there was some discussion on the HPDP mailing list regarding rules about this behaviour. Our comp organiser, Phil, has provided a definitive list of rules for this week's comp:

Hi All,

The following rules will be displayed and adopted for this week's pool comp.

Toxteth Hotel Pool Comp Rules

1. 1 shot rule.

2. Honest attempt at own ball.

3. If big and small balls are potted off the break, then the breaker is on the first to fall. It is then the opponent’s shot.

4. If the white ball is potted or leaves the table, the white ball must be played forward from the line.

5. The black ball is to be placed on the spot when racking at the start of game.

6. Missing the black or hitting an opponent’s ball first is not loss of game. Any other foul on the black is.

7. If the black ball leaves the table it is loss of game.

8. Any other ball leaving the table will be replaced on, or as close as possible to, the spot.

9. In the event of a dispute the competition organiser may declare a winner or a re-rack.

10. The organiser’s decision is final.

11. The winner of the game will rack the balls for the next game.

Deliberate snookers and the potting of opponent’s balls is discouraged in the interest of a friendly game.

Oh - special mention to Jo Proctor who made it to 48 out of a possible 50 comps. PT, Mond, Dean, Roelof, John L and Col all also managed to rack up more appearances than I did (42 - thanks to Dean and Col who ran the comp in the weeks I couldn't be there).

Wishing you all a great 2006,

Phil

Nick Power Cup - Congratulations Ben

Hi Everyone,

On behalf of the HPDP I offer my congratulations to Ben Spiers, the deserving winner of the 2006 Nick Power Cup, after 2 successive weeks making the final.

The third week of the NPC (last night) coincided with a celebration of the 30th birthday of Daniel and David (Nick's nephews). It was great to see Julia and the boys, and a fine celebration was had by all.

I do wonder what time today we stopped though....

Bo Wins Again

Peter writes All,

For those of you who didn't know, Bo was rather successful on Tue with the Melbourne Cup. And as always, the Glebe Globe, with its finger on the pulse of Glebe society, was there again with the attached piece of fine reportage.

Nick Power Cup 2005

Hi Everyone,

It is now actually past that time of year (September), but it IS the time of year that the 2005 NPC is being organised.

Dates are tentatively proposed as the 9th, 16th and 23rd of November.

Reasons/excuses it was not held in September:

1) School holidays prevent some regulars from attending
2) I was away
3) I have changed jobs, and only just got access to HPDP emails again (if this gets through ;-) Thanks Henare).

I am not planning on heavily promoting the NPC in the pub. The people to whom it is important will know, and I see no reason to encourage blow-ins with the idea that there is more on offer for these three weeks - there is only pride - not prizes.

On a related note, due to recent differences of opinion expressed over the pool table I am trying to get a list of rules to be put up in the pub (possibly only for Wednesday nights even). The following are up for discussion:

1) Honest attempt at own ball.
2) 1 shot rule.
3) If the white ball leaves the table, opponent must take next shot from the line and shoot forward.
4) If any other ball leaves the table, it shall be returned to the spot or as close as possible.
5) A player may miss the black ball. Any other foul on black is loss of game.
6) Deliberately sinking opponents balls and "tap" snookers are considered foul shots (see rules 1 and 2).

Anything I need to clarify, add or remove? [Make a comment or email the list]

Regards,

Phil Ryan
P.S. It is worth noting that unpopular though it is, a new record has been set. Brian Budd has now won the last 5 weeks in a row, beating Ben and Josh's records of 4, and making Pete's once unattainable 3 in a row look like old news. See rule 6 above for a clue to some of the differences of opinion that have been vioced.
