Well, the 1st stage of the 2004 Nick Power Cup went very well last night with a very good attendance level and some excellent pool being played. With most of the current top scorers in the regular comp being relegated to the scrap heap in the 1st or 2nd rounds, it was up to the likes of Gozzo (37 pts), Jo (29) and Dean (28) to clean up in the points tally.

Well done, guys!! It'll be on for young and old next week then.

hpdp.org.au posted a request for reporters on the Glebe Week Pub Crawl in the forums and after sifting through the many responses we selected John L to provide the report. Well, John delivered an oral report (in the spirit of a pub crawl, fair enough) and as promised over a beer last night, here it is:

For those of you new to the NPC or just can't remember, read on for the rules

Peter TThe rules are simple:

1. Point are scored over the next 3 Wednesdays (Sep 22 & 29, Oct 6).
At the end of the game, the winner is awarded 8 points while the loser
starts with seven and deducts from that the number of his balls left on the table.

2. The person with the most points at the end of the third
Wed wins the prestigious and coveted Nick Power Cup.

3. After each game you must tell Al the number of balls you sunk
during the game. It is YOUR responsibility to remember to tell Al.
Please make sure that your points plus those of your opponent
only add up to a maximum of 15 points per game.

Could you please ensure that everyone who may not be on the
mailing list or may not check the website, is informed about the NPC.

There are a number of issues that continually get raised in relation to the pool comp rules. The most current of these is the way that buybacks are handled. Set rules are required in order that the buyback process is fair to all.The only suggestion we have received to date is from Jo:

• Anyone arriving BEFORE 20:30 gets a place directly (obviously if
  there are any available)
• Anyone arriving AFTER 20:30 has no rights at all (unless there
  are loads of spaces)
• Any first round loser is eligible for a buy-back.
• The draw should be made when all other first round games have been played (and not before)
